Primary Function This position is responsible for preparing and filing state sales tax returns for the Grainger US business, along with general accounting, analysis and reconciliations for various other Grainger business units.
This role is based in Grainger's shared service office in Panama Pacifico .
Main duties and responsibilities Prepare and file 80+ state sales tax returns on a monthly basis by the specified due dates.
Help facilitate sales tax audits and provide all documentation that is requested by the various state auditors.
Assist management with implementing a new sales tax software that will make the return preparation more efficient and controlled.
Assist in the resolution of any sales tax reporting notices.
Ensure that all appropriate accounting entries have been made in accordance with proper guidance in a timely and accurate manner.
Reconcile various balance sheet and income statement accounts on a monthly basis ; investigate reconciling items and make sure they are resolved timely.
Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts to identify variances and explain underlying business reasons for changes in activity.
Clearly communicate explanations and support with respect to external consultant (audit) and internal management information requests.
Cross-train with and provide back up for other members of the Shared Services Accounting team.
Ensure that Company financial policies, procedures and controls are followed.
Take appropriate steps to safeguard company assets and ensure that all financial books and records are maintained in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
Ensure that financial controls and processes throughout the business are adequate to ensure the effectiveness of the internal control environment.
Ensure that all monthly, quarterly and annual financial close activities, financial reporting, analysis, audit activities and tax filings are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Evaluate continuous improvement opportunities and implement initiatives as needed to streamline and enhance processes and reduce costs.
Establish and maintain close working relationships with all internal and external business Partners.
Education and Experience Fluent in both English and Spanish CPA or equivalent preferred Minimum 3 years of experience in public accounting, internal audit or related large corporate accounting/finance experience required; Multinational company experience preferred Strong knowledge about the following is required: US GAAP, sales tax accounting, payroll accounting, AP & AR processes, cash reconciliations, capital assets Proven analytical skills and ability to recognize and explain unusual trends Independently problem-solve and be able to determine root cause and develop action plans to resolve issues Must be process oriented and be able to understand processes from start to finish StroAdvanced knowledge of Excel Must be able to shift focus easily and draw conclusions timely as business needs arise Agility and adherence to deadlines specially during tax filing and month end close periods SAP experience highly desired Strong verbal and written communication skills Grainger is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer.
